Titanium dioxide in coatings

Titanium Dioxide in Coatings

Titanium Dioxide (Tio2) is used in coatings and paints having an high opacity which occurs in two crystalline forms . Due to its excellent optical properties for CPVC coatings applications, Titanium Dioxide or (Tio2) is also known as
White Pigment. Titanium Dioxide possess anti reflection properties therefore it is used in silicon photovoltaics as an anti reflection coating.

Whiteness of Opacifying Agent

Titanium Dioxide (Tio2) or white pigment is popular for its brightness and for its refractive index which equals to 2.7. Titanium Dioxide acts as an Opacifying agent which means it makes the material opaque. In other words it blocks the UV rays coming through the applications which is coated with Titanium Dioxide. It is effectively used as an UV absorber as it transforms destructive UV light energy into heat. It helps in the seedlings for crystal formation. Titanium Dioxide or Tio2 is commonly used in ceramics, inks, paints, plastics, rubber, paper and a variety of other products.

Types of Tio2 Coatings

There are two types of Titanium Dioxide (Tio2) coatings. First kind of coatings are those which enamel grade performances below CPVC i.e Critical Pigment Volume Concentration and which comes under semi gloss & gloss coatings, And second type of coatings are those which are used in exterior & interior flat for improving spacing characteristics.
